Underprivileged Scholarship Award (USA)

Oji-River People’s Forum (OPF), Houston, Texas invites applications from the indigenes of Oji-River Local Government to its Underprivileged Scholarship Award (USA). USA is a part of the OPF Community Development Project, launched on September 22, 2007.

Mission

The broad mission of the USA is to promote literacy and qualitative education in our society. Specifically, the scholarship will assist intelligent and bright indigenes of Oji-River Local Government with limited financial resources to obtain superior education in Nigerian universities.

Scope of the Scholarship

As a start, a total of 10 students will be chosen. Two students will be chosen randomly from each of the five towns that makeup Oji-River Local Government Area, namely, Achi, Akpugoeze, Awlaw, Inyi and Ugwuoba. The first batch of the USA starts with the students who have been admitted or matriculated in December 2007 or will matriculate in January/February 2008. Subject to the guidelines set by Oji-River People’s Forum, this scholarship will pay the recipients’ full tuition fee for the entire bachelors’ degree program in Nigeria.

Eligibility and Criteria

USA is open to all underprivileged students of Oji-River Local Government, Enugu State, Nigeria, who have been duly admitted to or matriculated in accredited Nigerian universities. Further, it is restricted to students who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement, financial need, and good character in the community. Below are other specific requirements:

  • An admission letter or letter showing matriculation

  • Three letters of recommendation

  • Submission of an online Application Form (see below)

Application Deadline (March 31, 2008)

All application materials (i.e., online application form, three letters of recommendation, and admission letter/letter showing matriculation) must be submitted before or on March 31, 2008.  Incomplete application will not be considered; late entries will not be accepted.  Good luck!
